2 <br />CIP Related Activities Since November 5, 2007 <br />4- November 15, 2007 - Commissioners conducted a public hearing on the proposed 2008- <br />18 CIP where five residents addressed the Board and stated their support of specific <br />projects and capital needs: <br />+1- additional clinic and office space for the County's Health Department <br />al- additional client and office space for the Department of Social Services <br />,l creation of a southwest branch of the Hyconeechee Public Library <br />4- unfunded needs identified by the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools <br />4- January 2008 - During the month of January 2008, the Board conducted two work <br />sessions to discuss (1) options for meeting current and future space needs for the <br />Department of Social Services and the Health Department, (2) projects recommended <br />2008-18 CIP, and (3) Capital Investment Revenues. <br />o The options for providing additional space for human services as discussed <br />by the Board included: <br />The lease/purchase option of the Hillsborough Commons shopping <br />center (lease old Wal-Mart space for DSS/potentially purchase <br />facility in 2012); or <br />¦ Construction of a 50,000 square foot facility at the Southern Human <br />Services site as quickly as debt capacity will allow; or <br />¦ Construction of an addition to the existing Southern Human Services <br />Center as quickly as debt capacity will allow, with the eventual <br />construction of a 50,000 square foot facility for use by the <br />Department of Social Services in the future. <br />o Staff plans to provide additional information requested by Commissioners <br />for this and several other projects during the February 2008 work sessions. <br />Next Steps for 2008-18 Capital Investment Plan <br />The timeline below outlines remaining steps between tonight's meeting and the adoption of the <br />Schools' and County 2008-09 Capital Budget and project ordinances. <br />February 5, 2008 Second 2008-18 CIP Public Hearing <br />February 7, 2008 BOCC Work Session - further discussion of CIP and <br /> Local Revenue Options <br />2008 <br />February 12 BOCC Work Session - further discussion of CIP, if <br />, needed, and Local Revenue Options <br />February 19, 2008 BOCC Approval of 2008-18 School and County CIPs <br />March/April 2008 Formal Adoption of School and County Capital Project <br /> Ordinances and 2008-09 Capital Budget
