He encouraged people to visit the store in <br /> order to get insight for upcoming discussion about Agricultural Support Enterprises in the Rural <br /> Buffer. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier encouraged all Board members and community members to <br /> volunteer for Project Connect. She said this is being held at the Hargraves Community Center <br /> on October 9th. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier said she and Commissioner McKee will be attending the inter- <br /> city trip with the Chamber to Athens, Georgia this upcoming weekend. <br /> Commissioner Price said Orange County held a 9/11 ceremony at the Old Courthouse <br /> honoring the first responders, and the County was well represented by their Emergency <br /> Services. <br /> Commissioner Price said Durham Technical Community College is in the midst of <br /> strategic planning, and there is a lot of excitement about how the college is spreading. <br /> Chair Jacobs said there was another school collaboration meeting today in advance of <br /> the September 30th joint meeting. He said there were some interesting facts, including the fact <br /> that the school systems had the same number of pupils in 1989, but since then the growth of <br /> the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools has been 125 percent and Orange County has had a 55 <br /> percent growth rate. He said this is why it is so difficult to do equal funding. He said most of <br /> the other issues will be re-visited at the joint meeting. <br /> Chair Jacobs said the Solid Waste Advisory Group (SWAG) met again last Friday <br /> evening and had a lively discussion about the inter-local agreement. He thought it was a very <br /> promising meeting, and progress is being made. <br /> Chair Jacobs said three volunteers are needed for a retreat planning group and <br /> strategic goals review. <br /> Chair Jacobs said he has talked with manager about helping the Board reduce the <br /> number of ineetings, and the content of the agendas. He said the last two meetings show that <br /> she has been effective in this. And we will review the draft meeting calendar again at agenda <br /> review. <br /> Chair Jacobs said the Board would like to receive updates and pictures on the progress <br /> of the Cedar Grove Community Center and Rogers Road Neighborhood. <br /> 13.
