Director and Design and Production Manager
1984
Chapel Hill
Carrboro City Limits
Female
Caucasian
Community Activities /Organizational Memberships:
In 2011 1 helped to found the Carrboro Bicycle Coalition (CBC), and much of my volunteer
effort goes to things in the community that promote healthier transportation options,
including safer biking and walking conditions, and more use of non -car forms of
transportation when possible. In addition to the CBC, I have served on Carrboro s
Transportation Advisory Board for several terms and a total of over 20 years. My most
recent term just ended in February of 2014. 1 am the recipient of the NCPA 2011 Marvin
Collins Planning Award, an award given for volunteer efforts in transportation. I hosted
the state -wide NC Bike Summit last year in Carrboro, and as a member of the CBC
brought the first Open Streets event to Carrboro in 2013, which was such a success that
the Town made it part of their parks and recreation program in 2014. The CBC won a
Diversity award from UNC in April of 2014 for its work with lower income community
teaching them bike maintenance skills and giving them bike lights.
Past Service on Orange County Advisory Boards:
Boards /Commissions applied for:
Orange Unified Transportation Board
Background, education and experience relevant to this board:
In addition to the work I do in the community, I work with other transportation advocates, and
have a good rapport with all of them. When I served on Carrboro s Transportation Advisory
Board, I attended most of the Transit Partners Meetings, so I am very familiar with the Transit
system. I am a nationally certified LCI instructor with the League of American Bicyclists, and can
help with classes for both children and adults to train them not only with feeling more
comfortable on bikes, but to show them how to be better drivers around bikes as well.
Reasons for wanting to serve on this board:
