O
A meeting report is being prepared by the mediator for review by the meeting
participants before it is submitted to the County.
There was agreement to proceed with two separate farmers' markets. The
unincorporated association that has existed since 1987 will continue under the
name Hillsborough Farmers' Market. The incorporated group will start a new
farmers' market under a new name. Both groups look forward to serving the
community."
Liaison across the two groups, if problems should arise
Any of the officers of the incorporated group will be .available to respond to inquiries and
problem solve with any of the members of the unincorporated group's management team.
The representatives from both groups agreed to communicate with their own membership
in order to encourage that all members "take the high road." All will "do what is right."
If problems arise, leaders from both groups will communicate in order to reach a
resolution.
What is the end of the membership term for the unincorporated group?
Applications are due to the unincorporated group on January 15, 2008 for farms
interested in membership for next year (i.e., the 2008 season).
Applicants will be notified if their membership has been accepted by January 30, 2008.
The last day of membership in the unincorporated group for the current farmers market
season is February 2, 2008 at noon.
The annual meeting will be February 9, 2008.
How to help each other, or at least stay out of each other's way?
The timing, location and name of the two farmers' markets are issues around which the
two groups could have impacts upon each other: There are no agreements at this point
with respect to these issues (other than the incorporated group dissolving the organization
it created under the name Hillsborough Farmers Market as noted above). Both groups
expect the other to operate in ways that serve each group's own interests, which may
include sufficient separation in space or time to avoid confusing customers or "poaching"
from one another. The two groups "agreed to disagree" as to the importance of the
unincorporated group's 20-year history operating a farmers' market downtown in
deciding where or when either of the two markets would operate.
Grant request to the Hillsborough Tourism Board
Dispute Settlement Center of Orange County, Carrboro NC 5
