I Commissioner Rich said there was discussion at the work session about the Unified <br />2 Development Ordinance (UDO) as it relates to renewable and solar energy and utility <br />3 placement in the County. She wonders if it would be possible to have a forum to educate the <br />4 Board on what it means to put those utilities in the County. <br />5 Commissioner Rich said there has been a report in the News and Observer about <br />6 contractors who are subcontracting work, and then not paying the subcontractors properly. She <br />7 said the Board had received an update on what the County can demand from its contractors. <br />8 She thinks the Board needs to examine this issue more. <br />9 <br />10 4. Orange County Long Term Care Quality Service Awards <br />13 The Board recognized the winners of the 2014 Orange County Long Term Care Quality <br />14 Service Awards. <br />15 Janice Tyler introduced Donna Prather, Chair of the Long Term Care Leaning <br />16 Collaborative, who reviewed the following information: <br />17 <br />18 Background: As part of the Orange County 2012 -17 Master Aging Plan, the Department on <br />19 Aging was asked to develop a mechanism to help increase the quality of care provided in <br />20 Orange County's long -term care facilities and home care organizations. <br />21 <br />22 In 2013, the Advisory Board on Aging created the Orange County Long Term Care (LTC) <br />23 Learning Collaborative to bring administrators and direct -care staff together to learn about and <br />24 share successful approaches to quality care. The Aging Board wanted to provide organizations <br />25 the opportunity to learn about these new approaches and to support them in their <br />26 implementation. <br />27 <br />28 Long Term Care organizations were invited to a series of seminars in the summer of 2013 <br />29 which focused on two areas 1) activity programming and 2) administrative practices to reduce <br />30 staff turn -over. LTC organizations that attended the seminars were then challenged to <br />31 implement and evaluate the results of at least one of these practices over the coming year. <br />32 <br />33 The Advisory Board on Aging was so impressed with the results of some of these <br />34 efforts /projects that it would like to honor them with a 2014 LTC Quality Service Award. It is <br />35 hoped that the recognition of these Long Term Care organizations will be used as motivation for <br />36 other organizations to implement practices that support high levels of quality care. <br />37 <br />38 Donna Prather announced the following award winners: <br />39 <br />40 2014 Long Term Care Quality Service Award Winners: <br />41 <br />42 Livewell Assisted Living: Executive Director Diane Beckett and Activity Director <br />43 Marriettie Morris <br />44 Livewell is a 6 -bed family care home located in Chapel Hill. Many of its residents are <br />45 persons with dementia. The goal of its project was to implement an individualized program of <br />46 memory stimulation with each resident at least 15- minutes each day. With input from their <br />47 families, a set of activities was designed for each resident based on their past interests and <br />48 hobbies. It was hoped that these activities would bring pleasure to the residents, as well as <br />49 reduce some of the negative effects of dementia. The program was so well received by the <br />50 residents that they willingly engaged in these activities far more than just 15- minutes each day. <br />
