1 <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 19, 2013 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 6 -f <br />SUBJECT: Commemorative Plaques for Recently Commissioned Facilities <br />DEPARTMENT: Asset Management Services PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Link Center Plaque Photograph Jeff Thompson, (919) 245 -2658 <br />PURPOSE: To approve the installation of commemorative plaques in recently constructed <br />facilities, with funding of up to $22,500 from currently available funds within the Asset <br />Management Services General Fund FY 2013 -14 budget to cover the costs. <br />BACKGROUND: The County has developed new facilities and parks over the past several <br />years as part of its initiative for providing adequate and effective facilities for County services <br />and operations. <br />The following facilities have been developed and put into operation since 2007: <br />Robert and Pearl Seymour Center — Chapel Hill <br />Cedar Grove Park — Hillsborough <br />Twin Creeks Greenway — Chapel Hill <br />Fairview Park — Hillsborough <br />Solid Waste Operations Center — Chapel Hill <br />Central Orange Senior Center — Hillsborough <br />Orange County SportsPlex Renovations — Hillsborough <br />Gateway Center — Hillsborough <br />Emergency Services Operations Center — Hillsborough <br />Orange County Justice Facility Expansion — Hillsborough <br />Animal Services Facility — Chapel Hill <br />Department of Social Services — Hillsborough <br />West Campus Office Building — Hillsborough <br />Orange County Library — Hillsborough <br />Walnut Grove Church Road Convenience Center — Cedar Grove <br />Currently, these facilities are not marked with a commemorative plaque dedicating its use. <br />There are several facilities developed in the past that carry these commemorative markers, <br />such as the Richard E. Whitted facility and the Link Government Services Center. In addition, <br />there is no County policy governing the installation of commemorative plaques within developed <br />County facilities. <br />
