~~
Bicycle lanes and shared facilities (sharrows) are planned as an integral component of the
transportafion network in Buckhorn Village. Bicycle storage will be provided in both the
mixed-use and commercial areas within the project. It is unlikely that the addition of
bicycle access across I-85 can be integrated beyond what will be provided as walkways
and shared travel lanes.
The applicant supports the need to encourage carpooling and public transportation not
only for employees but also for patrons and residents. Buckhorn Village will provide at least
one major information-kiosk in a central location that will list transit and carpool
information.
Waste:
Buckhorn Village is committed to working closely with Orange County and future tenants to
minimize waste during construction and to facilitate trash sorting and recycling on an
ongoing basis. The Master Plan (Section 2-3-3 Environmental Factors) identifies specifics
relating to this concern. Waste recycling facilities will not only be provided at primary
collection points but also at numerous locations suitable for end user convenience. Food
composting on-site is not considered an appropriate activity in the context of Buckhorn
Village.
Water Efficiency:
The Master Plan (Section 2-3-3 Environmental Factors) establishes the following minimum
design standards for Buckhorn Village:
1. Use only captured rainwater, or water treated and conveyed by a public
agency specifically for non-potable uses for irrigation.
OR
Install landscaping that does not require permanent irrigation systems.
Temporary irrigation systems used for plant establishment are allowed only if
removed within one year of installation.
2. Provide low flow fixtures (i.e., toilets, shower heads, etc.)
3. On-site storm water retention will be provided and no potable water will be
used for irrigation:
Energy:
The Buckhorn Village Master Plan (Section 2-3-3 Environmental Factors) establishes
the following design standards and objectives:
1. Reducing Energy Needs by Use of Day-Lighting in Architectural Design
2. Engage in 2 yr. Contract for 35% of Energy from Renewable Sources
3. Work with Tenants on Requiring
Commissioning of Building Energy
Enhanced Energy Performance
Refrigerant Management
4. Use High Reflective Roofing Materials in Architectural Design
The applicant also agrees to comply with the standards established by Orange
County for area lighting to minimize nighttime light pollution and light trespass.
