12 <br />3a -2 - Mattress Factory Road Recommended Interchange Design <br />5) School Site Collaboration ................................ ............................... ..........................Craig Benedict <br />Bonnie Hammersley <br />a) Future School Siting Process <br />Orange County and the City of Mebane, over the years, have been pursuing collaborative <br />planning in areas of mutual interest. Discussions between Orange County Schools (OCS) officials <br />and County officials note that a new elementary school may be needed for the district before <br />the SAPFO projection of 2022 -23. The Orange County Planning and Inspections Department, <br />based on the guidance from the SOCC, is initiating the school siting process, if only for land - <br />banking purposes to meet future needs. Past discussions have suggested the next OCS <br />elementary school be sited within the City of Mebane's utility service area because of the <br />continued growth within the western portion of the county concentrated around the City of <br />Mebane. <br />Planning staff has begun evaluating the existing "Policy on Planning and Funding School Capital <br />Projects" and the pre - planning phase of the process. Criteria will be created based on national, <br />state, and local guidelines, as well as utilizing smart growth principles and input from our <br />
