Letters from Division 7 Engineer <br />PURPOSE: To consider a resolution endorsing two transportation improvements proposed by the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). <br />BACKGROUND: Pursuant to North Carolina General Statutes Chapter §136-11.1, the NCDOT <br />Division 7 Engineer has notified Orange County of two transportation improvements that have been <br />approved by the NCDOT Division 7 Board of Transportation. The projects are being funded with a <br />combination of Spot Safety funds and Contingency funds (administered by the NC Secretary of <br />Transportation). The NCDOT requests that Orange County submit a written resolution expressing <br />the County's views on each project. . <br />These projects were chosen because abenefit/cost analysis of areas having high crash rates or <br />recurring accidents of a specific type indicated the proposed improvements would yield the highest <br />benefits at these locations. The proposed improvements have proven effective for enhancing <br />safety and improving traffic flow in areas having similar geometric designs. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this item. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the Resolution <br />Endorsing Safety Improvements to Enhance Safety and Improve Traffic Flow. <br />
