4 <br /> EXHIBIT A <br /> AMENDMENT TO A BILL ENTITLED AN ACT MAKING FURTHER SUNDRY <br /> AMENDMENTS CONCERNING GOVERNMENTS IN ORANGE COUNTY <br /> PART I. ORANGE COUNTY <br /> Sec. 5. Section 6 of Chapter 246, Session Laws of 1991, as <br /> rewritten by Section 14 of Chapter 358 of the 1993 Session Laws, is <br /> amended by adding a new section (g) and renumbering the existing <br /> sections (g) and (h) to read sections (h) and (i) : <br /> Ng) ( 1) The Board of Commissioners may authorize the <br /> Commission to serve as a deferral agency for cases deferred by the <br /> Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to the Commission as <br /> provided in Section 706 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. <br /> S 2000e-5, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, 29 U.S.C. S <br /> 621 et seq. , and the Americans with Disabilities Act, 42 U.S.C. S <br /> 12101 et seq. , or for cases deferred by the Fair Housing Division <br /> of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development as <br /> provided in 42 U.S.C. S 3616. <br /> (2) When a complaint is filed with the Commission, <br /> pursuant to the Ordinance which alleges employment discrimination <br /> naming Orange County as a respondent, the Commission may defer the <br /> case to the Office of Administrative Hearings. When a complaint is <br /> filed with the Commission pursuant to the Ordinance which alleges <br /> housing discrimination, discrimination in public accommodations or <br /> other bias related conduct naming Orange County as a respondent, <br /> the Commission may defer the case to the North Carolina Human <br /> Relations Commission. <br /> (3) The Office of Administrative Hearings is designated <br /> to serve as the Commission's deferral agency for cases deferred by <br /> the Commission to the Office of Administrative Hearings as provided <br /> in subsection (g) (2) of this section and as such shall have all of <br />
