<br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Orange met in regular session
<br />on Tuesday, September h, 1951, At 10 o'clock A. M., in the Commisa Sonars' Room
<br />at the Courthouse in Hillsboro, the usual place of meeting.
<br />Ltembers oresent: Collier Cobb, Jr., Chairmnn; Sim L. Efland and R. 0.
<br />Forrest, Cortuaisaioners. i
<br />Members absent: None.
<br />The minutes of the August meeting were read end approved.
<br />tAr. Don S. Matheson, County Ferm Agent, and tArs. Aathxgn Hamrick, Home
<br />Demonstration Agent, apps ared and stated their plans of ral sing the income of
<br />the Orange County Farmers.
<br />Mr. Matheson stated an estimate of the average gross income was $1,88$.00
<br />or a net income of around $1,000.00, but they were honing that under a program
<br />they were stye ss lug, the farmers would raise more pigs, cattle, dairy cows, etc.,
<br />whereby the average income would be increased by $1,000.00.
<br />Mr. J. L. Scotton of Cheeks Township appeared and stated that the High Roc
<br />Road was very dangerous due to the fact that it eras vary narrow with four
<br />dangerous curves.
<br />The Board agreed that something should be done to this road, and asked
<br />Mr. Scotten to get a petition signed, and present same at the October meeting.
<br />Mr. Sam Ward of Efland, N. C., presented s road petition asking that the
<br />State Highway and Public Nforks Commission, take over and maintain a road 1n
<br />Cheeks Township, running from Highway No. 70 to Efland-Halls Mill Road.
<br />Length of road: .(t miles. The Hoard agreed to look over this road at their
<br />October meeting.
<br />IIpon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded and passed unanimously
<br />that 2ASss Idiriam Cox, Court Reporter, be paid $100.00 per wesk for each term
<br />of Superior Court.
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded and passed, Graham & _
<br />Eskridge, County Attorneys, are he rebg authorized to notlfg all tax payers who I
<br />pre delinquent 5 years or more, that foreclosure proceedings rrill be started
<br />against their property, unless the taws are paid immediately. '-
<br />IIpon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded and passed unanimously,
<br />Ira A. Ward Ss hereby authorized to have plastering, painting, etc., done to
<br />the Courthouse, Jail and Agricultural Building on a material and labor bnsis,
<br />except that the paint wi 11 be furnished by the County.
<br />IIpon motion of Commissioner Efland, duly seconded and unanimously passed,
<br />subfect to the eooroval of the Sheriff> Ira A. Wnrd Ss hereby directed to
<br />authorize the Deputy Sheriffs to collect insolvent taxo s. It is also ordered
<br />that the deputies be paid a Commission of Thirty (30~) Peresnt of such collec-
<br />tions as compenset ion for such service.
<br />Upon motion of Commissioner Efland, dulg sacondod end passed, n road
<br />petition cell ing for the vride Wing and stabilizing of a road running from the
<br />Erwin Road to Blackwood Station teas approved and ordered sent to the State
<br />Highway end Public Vlorke Commission for their consideration.
