12
1 schools in Orange County and I thank you for your future support. We vote based on support
2 for education.
3
4 Gentlemen and Ladies:
5
6 I am writing to urge you to fully fund the Carrboro City School District's budget request. I have
7 two grandchildren who attend McDougle Elementary School, and I am impressed over and over
8 again with the kind of attention, dedication and professionalism my grandchildren's teachers
9 have exhibited over these past five years when my grandson began kindergarten. These
10 teachers need to be compensated well for what they do for our children and ultimately our entire
11 society. Please do not cut back the teacher's salaries nor do we want to cut back on the fine
12 programs that are offered at this school. Our children need them, we need them, and our
13 country needs them.
14
15 Yours truly,
16 Carolyn Fahey
17 Grandmother
18
19
20 From: Mira Brancu
21 Phone Number: 9192404278
22 Message:
23 Dear County Commissioners,
24 Due to cuts in state funding, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District has been requested to
25 make significant cuts ($2.2 million) in education. I am asking as a parent to please fully fund the
26 district's budget request. Most parents move to this area specifically because of the excellent
27 quality of education in this school district. We pay extremely high taxes specifically assuming
28 that a large portion of those taxes are going to education. The district has excellent teachers
29 who are underpaid and stretched very thin already with lack of school supplies for the kids, We
30 as parents already support the schools by volunteering our time and resources and purchasing
31 supplemental materials throughout the year in order to make up an already tight budget above
32 and beyond the high taxes we pay. Further cuts will probably drive our excellent teachers out
33 due to frustration at the lack of support. It will also anger parents who are already paying taxes
34 and purchasing additional ma!
35 terials and donating funds and time to the district. A quality education is one of the things that
36 makes the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district an extremely highly desirable place to live. If the
37 quality of education is compromised, more people will leave the community and less will be
38 interested in coming in, which will ultimately effect the overall economy of the area. Funding
39 education is actually an incredibly wise long-term investment in the community's economic
40 viability.
41
42 Thank you so much for your support and public service during such a tough fiscal time.
43
44 From: Kelly Hogan
45 Phone Number: 9199603373
46 Message:
47 Like many parents, I urge you to fund our schools. When Chapel Hill is listed as a great place to
48 live, it is for the people, the weather and the educational environment of our schools from
49 kindergarten right through UNC's graduate programs. I have a friend moving from Vermont, and
50 while she would rather live in Durham for proximity to her future work-- she would only look in
51 Chapel Hill because of the schools. Durham is making their city quite attractive in a lot of ways--
