11
1 know there are many families like mine who would consider moving away if things continue to
2 move in the same direction.
3
4
5 Hello,
6
7 I am writing again to urge the board to fully fund both the Orange County and Chapel Hill
8 Carrboro School Districts' budget requests. I was very disappointed to see the interim county
9 manger's recommendations. He mentions that not raising taxes is unsustainable and what are
10 more unsustainable are the cuts to education that will occur if taxes are not raised this year
11 (both the county and the special district tax).
12 Funding public education is one of the most important things we can do to ensure economic
13 stability. We just had an election and we returned some of you to the board to do the right thing,
14 to stand by your promises to support our schools at a time when the state has turned their back
15 (despite some recent talk out of Raleigh). We have not raised the county tax in over 6 years; it
16 is time, the future of our region is too important to not make this choice. Please show the
17 courage to do what is best for our students and our economy, it is the correct moral choice and I
18 would argue the correct political choice as well. Thank you.
19
20 Karen Herpel
21 204 Wild Oak Lane
22 Carrboro, NC 27510
23 216.287.7758
24
25
26 From: Debra Gomes
27 Phone Number: 919-338-2141
28 Message:
29 My husband and I are very concerned with our public schools. We moved from California 7
30 years ago and chose Chapel Hill because of the quality of the schools. We know how quickly
31 schools can decline. We want you to creatively figure out a way to FULLY fund the budget
32 requests of Orange County and Chapel Hill/Carrboro Schools.
33 People will not only leave the schools if they quality starts to decline, they will also leave the
34 area effecting everything from our property values, schools, ability for companies and the
35 Universities to find quality employees. We live in a town where people put their children's
36 education FIRST. I know my husband and I would not stay if we see the quality of our kids
37 education start to slip.
38 The problem with our districts budget it not an issue that can be put on the back burner. It is an
39 issue that must be addressed NOW. It has already been postponed and our reserves are gone.
40 Tomorrow is too late.
41
42
43 From: Chris and Claire Giordano
44 Phone Number: 9199678327
45 Message:
46 We have 2 children in the CHCCS (1 at MES and 1 at FPG). We have been so happy with the
47 quality of the teachers and administrators at both schools. However, we are very concerned
48 that if the County Commissioners do not fully fund the proposed budget that the quality of the
49 teaching at our district schools will decline. Education is crucial to our children's future and to
50 the success of NC. We live in Chapel Hill because of the quality of the schools. We are happy
51 to pay an increase in property tax to fully fund our schools. Thank you for your past support of
