BACKGROUND: At their meeting last week, the Landfill Owner' s Group adopted a resolution requesting the governing boards of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Orange County to authorize the purchase of a 14.4 acre parcel known as the Neville tract. If approved, the Town of Chapel Hill would purchase the property using funds in the Land Reserve account of the Landfill Fund, which is administered by the Town on behalf of all three local governments. The Neville tract is immediately between the south side of the current Eubanks Road landfill and the Greene tract. The Neville tract would provide access between the two larger LOG owned tracts, and would provide a source of cover soil for landfill operations which are scheduled to begin later this Spring in the new lined landfill cell on the south side of Eubanks Road. RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board approve the resolution authorizing the purchase of the Neville tract.
