One compressor is completely non-functional,thereby causing the system <br /> to operate at one-half capacity. Investigation revealed that the system is obsolete and cannot be repaired. <br /> it is our understanding that this system Is original to the building,built in 1953. Specifications were prepared <br /> by Gary Merritt,consulting engineer,and bids were solicited to replace the chiller system. The result of the bid <br /> Is attached. <br /> Since it is important to install the system during a period of time when minimal heat and cooling is required for <br /> the building we are requesting that the Board both award the bid and approve the contract,contingent upon the <br /> appropriate reviews. This witl expedite the process and ensure that the system is installed in time for the 1995 <br /> cooling season. Partial funding for this work was included in the 19941999 CIP,the balance of the project <br /> funding is recommended in the 1995-2000 CIP. In order to be able to complete this work in the time frame <br /> required,it is recommended that other line items within the New Courthouse Project account be realigned to <br /> cover the amount anticipated through the 1995 CIP. Those funds would be replaced through the 1995-2000 <br /> CIP. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends that the Board award a bid to Comfort Engineers for <br /> replacement of the chiller system at the New Courthouse for a sum of$104,490 and approve a contract in this <br /> amount,contingent upon staff and Attorney review;and authorize the Chair to sign on behalf of the Board. <br />
