5
AMENDED MOTION: The Planning Board recommends that the roadway be
located such that it is better aligned with US
15-501 and the East/West Expressway rather than
NC 751 and that it be in Durham County rather
than Orange County.
VOTE: Unanimous.
c. Blackwood Station Area Study Update
Presentation by David Stancil
In the spring of 1990, a proposed amendment to
the Joint Planning Area (JPA) Land Use Plan
involving the Blackwood Station area of Chapel
Hill Township revealed inconsistencies between
land use designations and the zoning of the
properties. The Planning board, in July of 1990,
supported a staff recommendation to study the
area and correct these errors.
Since Blackwood Station is within the Joint
Planning Area, Chapel Hill and Carrboro would be
involved in any changes to the JPA Land Use Plan,
if necessary.
Staff has initiated work on this study, and has
completed a draft background and survey of
existing conditions section. Preliminary data on
slope, soils, environmental and cultural features
have been compiled.
No response has been received from Chapel Hill or
Carrboro staffs regarding their participation in
this study. Staff plans to continue work on
background sections, a citizen survey, and a
strategy for community meetings. This item is
scheduled for public hearing in April-May 1992.
d.
