9
GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT
November 1, 1994
FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION
State Historic Preservation Officer, William S. Price, Jr., announces that
applications are now being accepted for federal funding under the North Carolina
1995 historic preservation grant program.
The grant program is administered by the State Historic Preservation Office
(HPO), N.C. Division of Archives and History. It is funded with North Carolina's
share of the federal Historic Preservation Fund, money Congress appropriates for
preservation efforts.
An estimated $130,000 is available for these grants, at least $70,000 of
which is set aside for local governments which have been approved to participate
in the Certified Local Government Program.
Grant awards, representing up to 60% of estimated project costs, are
generally in the 55-15,000 range.
Eligible projects include architectural and archaeological surveys,
preservation plans, nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, and the
Certified Local Government Program.
Eligible grant applicants include local governments, universities, and private
nonprofit organizations.
A competitive selection process is used to determine all recipients. The
State Historic Preservation Officer makes the final decision on funding, selecting
those projects which best meet the criteria and priorities stated in the grant
application packets.
Grant funds are administered in accordance with federal and state
requirements; all, projects must be completed by July 31, 1996.
Deadline for application submittal is January 31, 1995, with announcement
of grant awards expected in March.
Applications packets, which include more detailed information regarding this
program, are available from the State Historic Preservation Office, N.C. Division of
Archives and History, 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27601-2807;
telephone 919/733-4763, FAX 919/733-8653.
The Division of Archives and History is an agency of the North Carolina
Department of Cultural Resources.
