12 <br /> Predevelopment projects may include: archaeological investigations, architectural <br /> plans and specifications, engineering services, or feasibility studies for restoration. <br /> Development projects may include archaeological excavations or restoration/ <br /> rehabilitation of historic structures. All projects must be located within the <br /> jurisdiction of the CLG. Structures or sites must be listed in the National Register <br /> of Historic Places, either individually or as a contributing property within a National <br /> Register historic district. Owners of the assisted property must sign a Preservation <br /> Agreement. Grants in excess of $5,000 require time-limited Restrictive Covenants <br /> registered with the deed to the property. <br /> SAMPLE PROJECTS <br /> The following are some examples of recently funded CLG projects: <br /> * Architectural survey and National Register district nomination of an early <br /> 20th century suburb in a major municipality, populated by the African- <br /> American community and threatened by speculative development <br /> ($7,000 grant) <br /> * The fourth phase of a program to identify and evaluate the nature and <br /> distribution of archaeological features associated with the oldest extant <br /> church building affiliated with an African-American Moravian congregation <br /> ($5,000 grant) <br /> * Updating a city-wide municipal survey to, document areas previously <br /> unrecorded and record changes in resources already inventoried <br /> ($5,000 grant) <br /> * Preparation of the historic preservation element of a comprehensive plan to <br /> guide land use decisions and help preserve the county's rural character and <br /> heritage ($10,000 grant) <br /> APPLICATION PROCESS <br /> * Apply by January 31, 1995 on the attached Grant Application Form. <br /> Mail completed application to: Lloyd Childers, grants administrator, <br /> State Historic Preservation Office, 109 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC <br /> 27601-2807.
