Eligible projects <br /> include architectural and archeological surveys,preparation of nominations to the <br /> National Register of Historic Places, and preservation plans. <br /> This year, an estimated $130,000 is available for preservation grants to local <br /> communities or nonprofit organizations. In accordance with federal requirements, <br /> $70,000 is reserved for grants to communities, such as Orange County, that <br /> participate in the Certified Local Government (CLG) program. Grant awards, <br /> representing up to 60%of estimated project costs,are generally in the$5-15,000 <br /> range. <br /> Grant applications must be completed and submitted to the SHPO by January 31, <br /> 1995. Grant awards will be announced in March, 1995, and projects must be <br /> completed by July 31, 1996. <br /> Survey and Planning Grant Funds are being requested to complete Phase H and <br /> Phase III of Orange County's historic preservation program. The purpose of the <br /> proposed project is two-fold: Part One is the completion of the inventory of <br /> historic sites and structures in the unincorporated sections of Orange County, <br /> excluding the Chapel Hill township;and Part Two is the completion of the Orange <br /> County Architectural and Historical Inventory Manuscript in a form suitable for <br /> publication. The County intends to employ an experienced and reputable <br /> architectural historian/writer to conduct this work. The estimated cost of Part <br /> One is $6,975, and the estimated cost of Part Two is $11,875. Both estimates <br /> include grant funds and cash and in-kind match. <br />
