February 25, 2008
Intercity Visit Sustainability Workgroup
Orange County Public Hearing
3. That the county establish and provide incentives for lacal entrepreneurs to C
encourage the rise of locally-owned businesses, for example in the form of a
revolving loan fund.
4. That the county seek, to the extent feasible, to have the development adhere
to Orange County's new Comprehensive Plan or, failing that, to adhere to
specific principles of sustainability as agreed on in the near term by the
county's boards and commissions.
A project that does nothing but add to our environmental burden, increase traffic,
and create low-wage jobs, all in the name of sales tax revenues that evaporate in
additional public service costs, is not worth having in Orange County. If this project
is just to be Orange County's version of our neighbors' shopping malls, then we
urge you to reject this proposal and to join the growing number of citizens who
understand that a sustainable economy is one moored in the local community and
one that starts from the perspective of "think local first."
Remarks prepared by Mike Collins, 967-4119, mmcc.collins@mindspring.com
