will oppose the proposed expansion with all means at hand. Accordingly, a draft resolution
opposing the expansion and targeted at both the NRC and the NC Public Utilities Commission
has been provided for Board review. There is also a clause in the resolution directing staff with
securing the necessary legal and technical assistance necessary to develop and file an
intervention with the NRC.
.FINANCIAL IMPACT: The financial impact to the resolutions, absence the intervention
reference, is nil. The intervention process of 1998-2001 was approximately $300,000. That
sum is probably a good starting point for an intervention on this matter. However, there may be
additional financial assistance available that was not available during the last intervention.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the BOCC review, revise as
necessary and adopt the resolution, and direct staff as to how to proceed in the matter of an
intervention.
