Wilkerson Contracting Company, Inc. <br /> Inspection Site: Main Campus and Achievement Drive, Raleigh, NC 27606 <br /> Citation 1 Item 2 Type of Violation: Serious <br /> 29 CFR 1926.651(k)(2): Where the competent person found evidence of a situation that could result in a possible <br /> cave-in,indications of failure of protective systems,hazardous atmospheres, or other hazardous conditions,exposed <br /> employees were not removed from the hazardous area until the necessary precautions had been taken to ensure their <br /> safety: <br /> a) Main Campus Drive and Achievement Drive (trench site at NCSU Centennial Campus) - on or <br /> about 11/20/12, the site foreman/competent person installed one sheet piling on the outside of the <br /> trench box (located near the 24 inch pipe) due to his observations that sand was entering that end <br /> of the trench box, indicating the presence of sub-surface movement of soil. The competent person <br /> did not remove the exposed employee.
