Curriculum Connections <br /> UNC Bhangra Elite will help introduce our students to this traditional Punjabi Indian folk <br /> dance, its origins, and distinctive features. They will also show how this traditional form of <br /> dance has evolved and included elements of modern dance as well. What a wonderful <br /> introduction to Indian culture and dance! <br /> Mr Ford's award-winning Golden Rod puppets will show our students folk tales adapted <br /> from various countries.The intricate mechanical designs and details of the puppets will As <br /> an artist working in multiple genres (performing, painting & set design, puppetry) Mr. Ford <br /> will also introduce our students to the idea of art as an interconnected, dynamic, <br /> profession and interest. <br /> These two performers will help Glenwood meet the following NC Standard Course of <br /> Study requirements and serve as a starting point for even more related activities: <br /> ✓K.R.1 Use a variety of thinking skills to analyze and evaluate dance. <br /> ✓K.C.1 Understand cultural,historical,and interdisciplinary connections with dance. <br /> ✓K11/2/3/4/5.CR.1 Understand global,interdisciplinary,and 21st century connections with music. <br /> ✓1.CR.1.1 Recognize how music is used in customs and traditions of various cultures. <br /> ✓2.CR.1.1 Exemplify music representing the heritage,customs,and traditions of various cultures. <br /> ✓3.CR.1.1 Exemplify how music is used by various groups for artistic expression within the local community. <br /> ✓4.C.1 Understand cultural,historical,and interdisciplinary connections with dance. <br /> ✓4.CR.1 Understand global,interdisciplinary,and 21st century connections with music. <br /> ✓5.C.1 Understand cultural,historical,and interdisciplinary connections with dance. <br /> ✓5.CR.1 Understand global,interdisciplinary,and 21st century connections with music. <br /> ✓K.CU.1.2 Identify the cultural/historical contexts of stories that are acted out <br /> ✓K.CU.2.1 Understand how to attend to others when they are sharing. <br /> ✓1.CU.1.2 Use creative drama techniques,such as storytelling or puppetry,to demonstrate vocal variety. <br /> ✓1.CU.1.1 Recognize how theatre is used in customs and traditions of various cultures. <br /> ✓2.CU.1.1 Exemplify theatrical works representing the heritage,customs,and traditions of various cultures <br /> ✓3.A.1.2 Evaluate informal or formal theatre productions in terms of the emotions or thoughts they evoke. <br /> ✓3.CU.1.1 Exemplify how theatre arts are used by.various groups for artistic expression within local community <br /> ✓3.CU.2.1 Illustrate theatre etiquette appropriate to the performance situation. <br /> ✓4.A.1.2 Critique choices made about characters,settings,&events as seen in,formal&informal productions <br /> ✓5.A.1.2 Evaluate how intended meanings are conveyed through formal and informal productions. <br /> Hobey Ford provides a Study Guide (attached herein) for student use and we will be <br /> working with our Music" and Art" Departments beforehand to integrate the performances <br /> with lessons. <br /> Proposed Uses of Grant Funds <br />
