ORANGE COUNTY ARTS <br /> COMMISSION <br /> TOM BROWNE <br /> Tom Browne is an artist who George Benson describes as "joy filled in expressiveness" and <br /> "believable in any musical style," topping the jazz and adult contemporary/ R&B charts with <br /> his kickin' trumpet and rich jazz melodies. That artist...is trumpeter Tom Browne. <br /> NITEWIND <br /> Nitewind is a musical group based on Jazz, Rock, Blues, Gospel and Funk. The five member <br /> band comes together as Nitewind to play inspiring music. Their greatest asset is that they <br /> can perform in all 5 genres and leave the audience wanting for more. <br /> ALAMANCE JAZZ BAND <br /> The Alamance Jazz Band was organized in December 1987 by area musicians. A member of <br /> the Alamance County Arts Council its purpose is to provide an organized program for these <br /> interested in learning, performing and enjoying music of the big band idiom. <br /> CAROLINA JAZZ AND BLUES COLLABORATIVE <br /> The Carolina Jazz and Blues Collaborative is a "pool" of professional musicians across North <br /> and South Carolina that perform across the Carolinas. The core of the group is made up of <br /> five players...trumpet, saxophone, bass, piano, and drums. Brothers Erich Haas on bass and <br /> Garth Hass on tenor sax both born and raised in Hillsborough, Alan Stouman on keys lives <br /> in Chapel Hill, Joe Sizemore on trumpet and Joe Van Norman on drums are from the <br /> Greenville/Wilson area. The Collaborative will be featured in June at the International Ja z <br /> Festival in Jamaica. <br /> DURHAM JAZZ MESSENGERS <br /> The Durham Jazz Messengers is a select group of high school students from around the <br /> triangle who are coached at the Durham Jazz Workshop. They won the 2013 Salett Arts <br /> Center Jazz Competition. The members are: Anne Bennett on alto sax (Brought High), <br /> Arvind Mallikarjunan on alto/soprano sax (Durham School of the Arts), Chris Sisco on <br /> trumpet (Cedar Ridge High), Jakob Bower on trombone (Durham School of the Arts), Julian <br /> Lambert on piano (Carrboro High), Alex Haggis on bass (Chapel Hill High), and Luke Murray <br /> on drums (Jordan High). <br /> Venue <br /> Jazz Fest has been held on the grounds of Moorefields since 2010, it's first year. <br /> Moorefields was built in 1785 as a summer home by Alfred Moore, a Revolutionary military <br /> leader, founder of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and prominent jurist who <br /> ultimately served as the second and last North Carolinian on the United States Supreme <br /> Court. The house was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 by Edward <br /> Draper-Savage, an artist and UNC French professor. The 70 acres of woodlands and <br /> permanent pasture at Moorefields are currently maintained as a wildlife refuge. Owned by <br />
