• Last Fridays Art Walks, during which venues unite to celebrate and present art; <br /> • Handmade Parade, featuring handmade puppets and has become a valued local tradition; <br /> • Parlor Concerts,showcasing traditional music; <br /> • Hillsborough Downtown Arts&Crafts Show,an annual spring event with regional artists; <br /> • Free Spirit Freedom, celebrating the diversity of Orange County's historic past and future <br /> through p otography and narrative; <br /> • Orange Dog Poets Society,supporting the strong literary tradition of Hillsborough; <br /> • Hillsborough Arts Council Gallery and Gift Shop, providing a consistent venue for the work <br /> of local ar fists; <br /> • Hillsborough Jazz Festival,bringing outdoor jazz performances to Hillsborough annually; <br /> • Hillsbor ugh Sculpture Tour,a bi-annual exhibit of outdoor sculpture in Hillsborough; and <br /> •Arts Alive,a performance series combining multiple art forms such as music and literature. <br /> • Proposed Uses of Grant Funds —description including location, date, artists involved. <br /> Free Spirit Freedom is proposing to use OCAC funds to support the expansion of the "Freedom <br /> through Faith and Knowledge"gallery of images,as well as the installation of two exhibition <br /> and the sponsoring of two storytelling events. More specifically,grant funds are needed to: <br /> • 1] contract with Jacquelin Liggins,a local photographer with roots in Orange County, t,) <br /> pt otograph [using film] historic school structures and sites that were built in rural <br /> Or ange County for children of color,and to have the film developed [$375]; <br /> • 2] print and mount thirty-five [35] new photographs/images and twenty [20] histor,. <br /> pf otographs and identifying text on sintra,at A Better Image Printing, a local vendor <br /> [$5 00]; <br /> • 3] contract with Staler Gilfillen a local architect,to document information about the <br /> structures and sites in the photographs—i.e., architectural features and their <br /> significance [$175]; <br /> • 4] purchase materials to install two photography exhibitions with the new photogra l <br /> one month each at the Central Orange Senior Center, and at the HAC Gallery [$50]; <br /> • 5] provide stipends to six featured Orange County community elders at two storytel1 nh <br /> events,three [3] at each event,who will recount their memories and sentiments in <br /> at ending or teaching at rural,segregated schools [$300]; and <br /> • 6] assist with travel costs [$100] of project participants. <br /> Activities that will be part of the overall project and supported with applicant cash, including, <br /> in-kind contributions,are: <br /> • two [2] artists'openings with receptions,including space rental; <br /> • marketing and publicity <br /> • oral history interviews with community members based on the photographs,with <br /> guidance from Peter Sandbeck,the County's cultural resources coordinator,and Dr. <br /> Freddie L.
