Compass Center for Women and Families <br /> Arts Program Application Narrative <br /> Organizational_Profile: <br /> Compass Center for Women and Families,created from the merger on July 1, 2012,of Family Violence <br /> Prevention Center of Orange County(founded in 2000) and The Women's Center(founded in 1979), <br /> helps individuals and families prevent and end domestic violence and become self-sufficient. We <br /> provide domestic violence crisis services,career and financial education, assistance with legal resources, <br /> and adolescent empowerment programs. <br /> Current Programs and Services: <br /> Compass Center for Women and Families offers services to adults and children who are experiencing <br /> emotional, physical,verbal,economic, or sexual abuse in their personal relationships. We also work with <br /> individuals who need support with a transition in their lives. We work with people on an individual basis <br /> to determine their options. Domestic violence crisis services are free and available in English and <br /> Spanish. Many of our financial,career, legal,and adolescent programs are free, and those with fees are <br /> available on a sliding scale basis. No one is turned away due to the inability to pay. All services are <br /> confidential,and are provided to all regardless of race, class, religion, ethnic group,sexual orientation or <br /> gender identity. <br /> Our programs include: <br /> • Domestic Violence Crisis Counseling <br /> • Support Groups <br /> • Safety Planning <br /> • Financial Literacy Education <br /> • Career Exploration and Preparedness <br /> • Legal Information <br /> • Adolescent Empowerment Programs <br /> • Connections to Community Resources <br /> Compass Center for Women and Families' services and programs are funded in part by the United Way <br /> of the Greater Triangle,the Towns of Chapel Hill,Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Orange County. Funding <br /> also comes from the state of North Carolina. Compass Center depends on individual contributions, <br /> program fees, and special events such as Through Women's Eyes, by Women's Hands. <br /> For now,Compass Center continues to operate out of two locations. Domestic Violence services take <br /> place out of our office at 207 Wilson Street. Self-Sufficiency Services including Career, Legal, and <br /> Financial Programs are available through our office at 210 Henderson Street. Our Adolescent Programs <br /> are also coordinated through our office on Henderson Street. <br />
