Compass Center for Women and Families �- Summary Statement for Proposed Uses of Arts Program Grant: Compass Center for Women and Families will offer a series of writing workshops/groups facilitated by survivors of intimate partner violence for survivors of intimate partner violence. Writing is a powerful tool for not only working toward personal healing, but also for breaking the silence around abuse that is so often hidden behind closed doors. These workshops/groups would be open to any survivor in the community who is interested in exploring their experiences through a variety of writing forms including poetry,journaling, mixed media,fiction and non-fiction.The survivors interested in leading these workshops are experienced writers who wish to share what they have learned with other survivors.At the end of the series participants would have the opportunity to share their written and any complimentary visual work through a publication with the choice to use their name or submit their work anonymously.This publication would be shared with the public at no charge through our various media outlets. These funds would be used to support the program in purchasing art and writing supplies for the workshops; helping participants pay for the cost of traveling to the workshops, in order to be accessible to all survivors in the county; publicizing the workshops and participant work in the community;and publishing a collection of survivor work that can be shared with the general public in an effort to break the silence around intimate partner violence and prevent future abuse.
