As an appreciation of the
facilitators'time and experiences, our budget also includes an artist stipend.
Artists'Testimonials:
"I cannot imagine being able to process my exit from a long abusive marriage without the hours and
hours of journal-writing I have done. A journal is a friend available at any hour to listen,a mirror to
reflect my thoughts without judgment, a record for when uncertainty strikes.Through emotional
violence, my husband denied my right to express my thoughts, feelings, and needs. Putting pen to paper
has made it possible to hear my good clear thinking again,to find the voice that got buried for awhile.
The more I write, the easier it becomes to speak up in person, in the moment,to define and protect my
boundaries as I connect with other people and re-enter the world."—Pam Baggett
"For me,writing is the purest form of catharsis. Putting words to a page transforms my experiences into
stories and allows me to release them from myself. I use writing to say the things my mouth cannot-to
give voice to my deepest fears, hopes, and joys. It allows me to look back later on where I was and see
how far 1 have come, and gives perspective on where I am headed next.Writing is not simply the
creating of art, it is the evolution of self."—A. Leanne Simon
