r
Arts in Education Grant—Spring 2014-15 McDougle Elementary School PTA
Integrating Cultural Arts into the Curriculum
The PTA Cultural Arts program works in concert with the school's art education curriculum, as
well as with the teachers who incorporate the performances into the grade-level curriculum
specified in the NC Essential Standards and the Common Core, particularly focusing on the Arts
Education component. Both Orchid Ensemble and NCYTE provide instructional materials to
correspond with their performances, which are distributed to MES teachers. Each teacher is
responsible for integrating these materials and the performances with the curriculum in each
classroom. These linkages would most often take place on a grade-wide scale, with teachers of
the same grade using the same lesson, which would be reinforced during relevant `specials'
classes (e.g., art, music, library).
