P a g i5 <br /> CHW now wishes to broaden its community outreach and education mission by offering <br /> a Creative Woodturning component to the Career and Technical Education/Furniture <br /> and Cabinetmaking curriculum at Cedar Ridge High School. CHW's support for this <br /> partnership includes: (1) a $500 cash contribution as partial matching funds for this <br /> $1,000 grant request; (2) assistance in developing a lesson plan that will be integrated <br /> into the CRHS CTE curriculum; (3) miscellaneous non-cash donations of tools and <br /> materials; and (4) a schedule of instructional classes and workshops by selected CHW <br /> members designed to introduce students to basic woodturning principles.These <br /> sessions will also include more advanced instruction in the application of a variety of <br /> creative enhancements such as marbling with acrylic and oil paints,texturing and <br /> spiraling techniques, and elements of marquetry and textile design. <br /> CHW members who will instruct in Creative Woodturning are trained professionals <br /> and/or experienced educators. Five members regularly teach at the John C. Campbell <br /> Folk School in Brasstown, NC. CHW routinely provides training/workshops for members <br /> of other clubs in the area and throughout North Carolina. Several members have their <br /> works exhibited and sold through a variety of art galleries and shows. <br />
