Examples of Past Residencies: <br /> Kindergarten Residency <br /> Kindergarten students studied the book Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister, through the art of <br /> mosaic. In addition to the natural literacy connection, students studied patterns by linking the f i`Ii <br /> scale patterns from the book to mosaic patterns on a grid. In addition to creating individual <br /> mosaics, each class also made a group mosaic based off of Rainbow Fish that is displayed at 111L <br /> school. The residency tied into the show Rainbow Fish, presented by ArtsPower, that student <br /> saw at The ArtsCenter. <br /> First Grade Residency <br /> First grade classes participated in a musical theater residency that connected with the show <br /> Rainbow Fish, presented by ArtsPower, which students saw at The ArtsCenter. The residence <br /> linked to the science curriculum (ocean habitats, plants/animals, etc.), as well as the literacy <br /> curriculum (re-telling, recalling main characters and supporting details and comparing and <br /> contrasting). <br /> Second Grade Residency <br /> Second grade students learned about the history of African culture through music, which also <br /> connected to their unit on sound in the second grade science curriculum. Simultaneously, students read and studied several Mexican folktales as part of a <br /> larger literacy unit on myths and legends. The residency connected with the School Show Build <br /> Folklorico Mexico that students saw at The ArtsCenter. The students' complete projects were <br /> displayed at Orange County Schools' Cultural Explosion. <br /> Fifth Grade Residency <br /> Fifth grade students studied the Civil Rights Movement through drama and creative movement. <br /> which also prepared them to see Tired Souls, by Mike Wiley, at The ArtsCenter.
