<br /> Organizational Profile- Mission and History
<br /> FRANK gallery is a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization operated by the volunteer
<br /> efforts of the Member Artists of the Franklin Street Arts Collective,its staff,and the
<br /> support of community leaders and art lovers. Our Franklin Street gallery was established
<br /> in 2010 with 20 artist members who conceived,created,and now operate FRANK.The
<br /> town of Chapel Hill,the Downtown Partnership,local businesses,and individuals
<br /> provided initial funding to launch FRANK.The gallery showcases contemporary art by
<br /> established local and regional artists,exhibiting the work of more than 200 artists,
<br /> attracting more than 15,000 people a year to the Gallery and downtown Chapel Hill.
<br /> The mission of the Franklin Street Arts Collective is to support the arts
<br /> community of Chapel Hill and the region,strengthen appreciation of the arts through
<br /> educational outreach,and promote Chapel Hill and North Carolina as a major arts
<br /> destination.Through the non-profit arm of our gallery,we strive to provide a stimulating,
<br /> inclusive,and accessible resource in Orange County as a catalyst for sharing of ideas and
<br /> inspiration,forming partnerships using art as a medium for communication and
<br /> community building.
<br /> Audiences Served, Outreach and Education Programs
<br /> Through the Non-Profit Arm of FRANK Gallery
<br /> With membership and grant support,FRANK offers artist salons,art critique,and
<br /> educational programs for children,teens,seniors,and refugee populations.Twice a year
<br /> our Community Outreach Gallery hosts nontraditional art exhibitions including cross
<br /> cultural partnerships with schools,mental health agencies,and hospital programs.Twice
<br /> a month FRANK offers Thursday evening salons with 15-60 participants per salon.
<br /> Member artists and consigners share their work and methods with the community. Guest
<br /> artists read original poetry,present theatrical skits,and perform traditional and
<br /> experimental music.
<br /> For children and teens, member artists regularly partner with Kidzu, the
<br /> Sacrificial Poets, and McDougle Elementary School. This year we added the Karen
<br /> Youth Group for Burmese refugee children, Phillips Middle School, UNC
<br /> photojournalism class' The "37" Frame, to our Community Gallery. For seniors
<br /> FRANK hosts programs for the Chapel Hill Senior Center, Meadowmont, and Triangle
<br /> area retirement centers. For health care patients FRANK provides support and
<br /> activities for the UNC Health Care System; Recreational Therapy and Child Life Center,
<br /> the pediatric ward at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Brushes with
<br /> Life, a community health organization exhibiting artists with mental illness. Teens from
<br /> the iCANcer photo program sponsored by the physical therapy program at the University
<br /> of North Carolina Hospitals' Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit visited our 2013
<br /> OCAC sponsored teens photography exhibition. With 2011 grant support from OCAC,
<br /> FRANK offered its first series of educational workshops for adults offering drawing,
<br /> photography, and singing. Member artists have demonstrated traditional pottery
<br /> techniques, black-and-white and infrared photography, encaustic painting, watercolor
<br /> techniques, eco farming, dance, bookmaking as art, wallpaper and file design and
