And out of that comes this experience that people
really love."
Weiner began preforming at the Carrboro Music Festival when it was created 16 years ago.
Although she moved to Florida for a few years, she says Carrboro's charm brought her back.
Wiener said that music is how we express ourselves as human beings. For her, "Music equals life,
equals joy, equals love."
Despite performing in Carrboro and at the festival for many years, Weiner is still surprised by how
receptive the crowds are.
For Weiner, her favorite part of the festival is being able to play together with her friends in
mahaloJazz. "This group is such a talented group. They're interested in that complete ensemble
sound, and that's what I'm interested in. It's exciting to try that out in front of a really enthusiastic
crowd."
According to Williams, the crowds continue to grow because, while the festival is consistent, it
varies every year. "We try to get as many new faces and new bands as possible. One-third of the
bands are first time festival players. It is a different experience for those people who come year
after year, after year. "
All of the bands donate their talents, and many see it as a way for them to give back to the
community and get exposure from a different audience. Williams said, "Most bands are very happy
to donate their time and talents. We make an effort to get as much diversity and variety as we
can."
Lock 1 October 2, 2013 at 9:02 pm URL: htt :/1w rneY2zGGP-1ZW
Comment See all comments
10/3/2013
