Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> Beverly Blythe noted that the Commissioners have a letter before them regarding a <br /> request to rename the Central Orange Senior Center to the Jerry Passmore Center. She said <br /> she understands that there is a policy regarding the renaming of buildings, and she is asking for <br /> a waiver of this policy to allow this change. She said this is important to the board and the <br /> community. She asked for a show of support from the audience, and she asked the Board for <br /> their help in this matter. She noted the past and present contributions of Jerry Passmore. <br /> Dorothy Johnson reviewed a handout regarding the Fairview Community Watch. She <br /> said she is requesting a matching grant for the summer monitoring program at Fairview Park. <br /> She said the cost of the program is $4,000, and this pays for an adult monitor and a youth <br /> assistant for 18 hours per week from June to August. She said these workers oversee activities <br /> and monitor for unwanted behavior. She said this program has been in operation for the past <br /> two years, and the employees have been well liked and respected Fairview residents. <br /> She said there is an urgency to this request, as the goal would be to hire staff to begin <br /> in mid-June. She asked for a matching funds grant of$2000. <br /> Commissioner Dorosin arrived 7:10 p.m. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Rich to add <br /> a closed session to the end of the meeting for the purpose of: <br /> "To consider the qualifications, competence, performance, character, fitness, conditions of <br /> appointment, or conditions of initial employment of an individual public officer or employee or <br /> prospective public officer or employee" NCGS § 143-318.11(a) (6). <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> b. Petitions by Board Members <br /> Commissioner Dorosin said he was recently in a meeting with some housing advocates. <br /> He said there was a decision by certain private landlords of apartment complexes in Orange <br /> County to no longer accept section 8 housing vouchers; and as a result, approximately 90 <br /> voucher holders are facing the possible loss of their housing. He said 43 of those voucher <br /> holders are still looking for housing alternatives, and 47 have either found housing or turned in <br /> vouchers and moved out of the County.
