Matters not on the Printed Agenda Beverly Blythe noted that the Commissioners have a letter before them regarding a request to rename the Central Orange Senior Center to the Jerry Passmore Center. She said she understands that there is a policy regarding the renaming of buildings, and she is asking for a waiver of this policy to allow this change. She said this is important to the board and the community. She asked for a show of support from the audience, and she asked the Board for their help in this matter. She noted the past and present contributions of Jerry Passmore. Dorothy Johnson reviewed a handout regarding the Fairview Community Watch. She said she is requesting a matching grant for the summer monitoring program at Fairview Park. She said the cost of the program is $4,000, and this pays for an adult monitor and a youth assistant for 18 hours per week from June to August. She said these workers oversee activities and monitor for unwanted behavior. She said this program has been in operation for the past two years, and the employees have been well liked and respected Fairview residents. She said there is an urgency to this request, as the goal would be to hire staff to begin in mid-June. She asked for a matching funds grant of$2000. Commissioner Dorosin arrived 7:10 p.m. A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Rich to add a closed session to the end of the meeting for the purpose of: "To consider the qualifications, competence, performance, character, fitness, conditions of appointment, or conditions of initial employment of an individual public officer or employee or prospective public officer or employee" NCGS § 143-318.11(a) (6). Petitions by Board Members Commissioner Dorosin said he was recently in a meeting with some housing advocates. He said there was a decision by certain private landlords of apartment complexes in Orange County to no longer accept section 8 housing vouchers; and as a result, approximately 90 voucher holders are facing the possible loss of their housing. He said 43 of those voucher holders are still looking for housing alternatives, and 47 have either found housing or turned in vouchers and moved out of the County.
