Staff-Recommended Bus Service Erik Landfried, Triangle Transit Service Planning <br /> Expansion Program Summary Supervisor, 919-485-7508 <br /> PURPOSE: To receive a presentation of public outreach results and consider BOCC <br /> endorsement of the proposed Triangle Transit (TTA) and Orange Public Transportation (OPT) <br /> bus service expansion concepts in central and rural Orange County over the next five (5) years. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Orange County Bus and Rail Investment Plan (OCBRIP) was approved <br /> by the BOCC in June 2012. The OCBRIP provides local and regional transit opportunities <br /> including expanded bus service and proposed light rail. Voters in November 2012 approved a <br /> one-half cent sales tax and vehicle registration fee increase to fund the local portion of the Plan, <br /> and collection these revenues began on April 1, 2013. <br /> Additional background documents such as the adopted OCBRIP can be found via the following <br /> link, listed under Transportation Documents: <br /> http://www.co.orange.nc.us/planning/transportation.asp <br /> At its May 8, 2014 meeting, the BOCC received a presentation on concepts for expanding OPT <br /> and TTA bus operations in central and rural Orange County over the next five years. These <br /> services included: <br /> TTA and OPT: <br /> • A cross-county, peak-period regional service (ODX Route) to be operated by TTA <br /> connecting downtown Durham, Duke Hospital, Hillsborough, Efland and Mebane and <br /> complementary peak-period and midday service operated by OPT; <br /> OPT: <br /> • Expanded dial-a-ride, rural general public demand response service; <br /> • Expanded senior center transportation; <br />
