1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: June 17, 2014 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 6-p <br /> SUBJECT: Partnership Agreement Renewal — Sports Endeavors, Inc. <br /> DEPARTMENT: Environment, Agriculture, Parks PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br /> and Recreation <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Proposed Agreement Renewal David Stancil (919) 245-2510 <br /> PURPOSE: To consider renewal of an agreement with Sports Endeavors, Inc. for a <br /> partnership with Orange County regarding the naming rights of the Eurosport Soccer Center. <br /> BACKGROUND: In June 2009 the Board authorized the Chair to sign a formal agreement <br /> covering a partnership between Orange County and Sports Endeavors, Inc. of Hillsborough, <br /> the parent company of the Eurosport Soccer brand. At that time, the Board also authorized <br /> additional partnerships to be developed with other community entities for operations of the <br /> soccer center. The five year agreement with Sports Endeavors is due to expire on June 30, <br /> 2014. Staff and Sports Endeavors have met and agreed upon terms for a renewal of the <br /> agreement to be effective July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2019. Sports Endeavors has <br /> embarked on a new branding campaign, which eliminates the name Eurosport from its <br /> marketing strategy. Accordingly, the agreement calls for the new name of the center to be the <br /> Soccer.com Center. <br /> Highlights of the renewal include an increase in the sponsorship fee from $30,000 per year (5- <br /> year total of $150,000), to $35,000 per year (5-year total of $175,000). The sponsorship fee <br /> match provided for in the agreement would remain the same, at a maximum of an additional <br /> $30,000 per year. Currently, Sports Endeavors matches a sponsorship agreement with <br /> Triangle Orthopaedic Associates (TOA) for $6,000 per year. The agreement with TOA expires <br /> in August and is currently under discussion for renewal. <br /> The partnership with Sports Endeavors has been generally agreed to be a positive one over <br /> the past five years, one in which both parties have benefitted from the arrangement. The <br /> soccer center hosts more than 70,000 visitors annually. In 2013, the center was host to <br /> hundreds of instructional league games and practices, additional hundreds of "travel team" <br /> games, Ultimate Frisbee and lacrosse events, as well as many local, regional and national <br /> soccer tournaments. The soccer center has become a "destination" for regional and national <br /> events, yielding positive economic benefits for the county. The focus of the center is both <br /> • <br />
