He would like to know if support or <br />2 advice is being offered to these people. <br />3 Commissioner Price said she has been getting emails from the Human Relations <br />4 Commission and department staff about moving forward with Women and Equity. She <br />5 petitioned the Board to allow this to happen. <br />6 Chair Jacobs said he would like to petition the Board to honor Judson Edeburn, who has <br />7 served for 35 years as the manager of Duke Forest. He said, thanks to Judson Edeburn's <br />8 efforts, the Board was able to form a partnership with Duke and purchase property from Duke. <br />9 Chair Jacobs said he wanted to make sure that the Board is comfortable with the <br />10 proposed dais and screen for the new Whitted Building meeting room. He said the mock -up <br />11 indicated that it would be very large, and it would be an impediment to the public's ability to see. <br />12 He suggested the possibility of moving this to the side. He would like for all Board members <br />13 who have not toured the facility to take a look at it before the technology equipment is ordered. <br />14 <br />15 4. Proclamations/ Resolutions/ Special Presentations <br />16 <br />17 a. Recognition of Project EngAGE Graduates <br />18 The Board recognized the inaugural class of Project EngAGE, a senior leadership <br />19 program sponsored by the Department on Aging. <br />20 Department on Aging Direction Janice Tyler said the graduates have completed a 12 <br />21 week training and have been organized into community resource teams. She outlined some of <br />22 the projects, such as working with 4 -H groups to develop service projects that serve older <br />23 adults. She said the purpose of tonight is to recognize the 15 graduates for their achievement <br />24 and the impact of their future service in the community. <br />25 Chair Jacobs said several Board members had the opportunity to attend some of the <br />26 group functions over the past 4 months. He said this is a dedicated group of people who want <br />27 to do good for the community. <br />28 Chair Jacobs recognized the following graduates, who received their graduation <br />29 plaques: <br />30 <br />31 <br />Gail Alberti <br />32 <br />Bill Barrows, <br />33 <br />Jaki Shelton Green <br />34 <br />Sue Heckman <br />35 <br />Cliff Leath <br />36 <br />Dee Lowdermilk <br />37 <br />Rod Magson <br />38 <br />Lenore Martin <br />39 <br />Betty Melanson <br />40 <br />Yvonne Mandenhall <br />41 <br />Delores Ramsey <br />42 <br />Donna Scandlin <br />43 <br />Tana Hartman <br />44 <br />Norma White <br />45 <br />46 b. Older Americans Month Proclamation <br />47 The Board considered approving a proclamation joining Federal and State governments <br />48 in designating the month of May as Older Americans Month and a time to honor older adults for <br />49 their contributions to society and to Orange County and authorizing the Chair to sign. <br />
