ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: June 17, 2014 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 4 -a <br />SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing Chapel Hill High School Women's Soccer Team <br />Winning the 2014 State Championship <br />DEPARTMENT: BOCC <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Proclamation <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y /N) No <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Donna Baker, Clerk to the Orange <br />County Board of Commissioners, <br />(919) 245 -2130 <br />1 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation recognizing the Chapel Hill High School Women's <br />Soccer Team and Coach Ron Benson for winning the 2014 State Championship. <br />BACKGROUND: On May 31, 2014, the Chapel Hill High School Women's Soccer Team <br />captured the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A State Women's <br />Soccer Championship. <br />Under the guidance of Head Coach Ron Benson, the Chapel Hill High School Women's Soccer <br />Team earned its first NCHSAA state title, completing the season with a 23 -1 record. <br />Coach Benson, after 34 years of leading the Tigers, has announced his retirement. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the attached <br />proclamation recognizing the Chapel Hill High School Women's Soccer Team for winning the <br />2014 State Championship and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation on behalf of the <br />Board. <br />
