Their
work is nearing completion and final recommendations for the group will be presented during fihe
Board's worksession on 11/9. The recommendations include the need to expand the existing
county campus in Hillsborough.
Recently George Horton, a local developer, approached the County with a proposal to expand
the County's downtown Hillsborough campus with new buildings roughly adjacent to the existing
County courthouse, jail and office complex rather than to create a new campus at a separate
location. This allows the County to utilize existing campus buildings and to promote walkability
among County facilities while adding the needed space as indicated by the earlier studies.
The Site
The project site is located on the old Southern States property, the Gateway building property
and several other parcels. Combined, the project sits on parcels of land totaling approximately
3.35 acres located at the southern edge of the Historic District of Hillsborough. The combined
