Manley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Chapel Hill, has <br />served there as pastor for 60 years, and is celebrating his 60th Anniversary as pastor. Reverend <br />Manley's dedication and commitment to the First Baptist Church has extended beyond the walls <br />of the church into multiple activities that have greatly benefited the multitudes of people in <br />Orange County. He has been, and continues to be, a strong advocate for the needs of the <br />residents in Orange County. <br />Rev. Manley was the first African-American elected to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School <br />Board and has held .membership on many boards, committees, commissions, and organizations <br />in Orange County. Rev. Manley continues to give his time and talent to the continued growth <br />and progress of Orange County and its surrounding communities. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: NONE <br />RECOMMENDATION (S): The Manager recommends that the Board adopt the attached <br />resolution declaring December 9, 2006 as Reverend John R. Manley Day in Orange County. <br />
