2 WHEREAS, on March 15, 2014, Chapel Hill High School Women's Basketball Team captured <br />3 the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's ( NCHSAA) 3A State <br />4 Women's Basketball Championship; and, <br />5 <br />6 WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Sherry Norris, the Chapel Hill High School Women's <br />7 Basketball Team earned its second NCHSAA state title, completing the season <br />8 with an undefeated 32 -0 record; and, <br />9 <br />10 WHEREAS, Coach Sherry Norris was named the 2013 -14 North Carolina Women's Coach of <br />11 the Year by the Associated Press, and, in her 37th year as a classroom teacher, <br />12 has announced her retirement; and, <br />13 <br />14 WHEREAS, Coach Sherry Norris is the winningest high school volleyball and basketball coach <br />15 with more than 1,200 victories across the two sports, and recorded her 540th <br />16 basketball win with the State Championship victory by the Lady Tigers; and, <br />17 <br />18 WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Lady Tigers <br />19 brought honor upon themselves, Chapel Hill High School, the Chapel <br />20 Hill /Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; <br />21 <br />22 NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />23 expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Chapel Hill High School <br />24 Women's Basketball Team and Coach Sherry Norris for the Tigers' outstanding <br />25 achievement, and their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their <br />26 dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess. <br />27 <br />28 This, the 15th day of April, 2014. <br />29 <br />30 <br />31 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Rich <br />32 approving a proclamation recognizing the Chapel Hill High School Women's Basketball Team <br />33 and Coach Sherry Norris for winning the 2014 State Championship and authorizing the Chair to <br />34 sign the proclamation on behalf of the Board. <br />35 <br />36 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />37 <br />38 b.
