Transit and Chapel Hill North-South Corridor Study <br /> a) Transit <br /> Craig Benedict said Orange County and the municipalities adopted a bus plan in 2012 <br /> and proceeded with a referendum in November 2012, which was passed. He said this is now <br /> in the implementation phase and includes all facets of transit. He said light rail has been <br /> accepted into project development with the federal transit administration. He said the Amtrak <br /> Train Station in Hillsborough is proceeding. <br /> He said monies are becoming available by the half cent sales tax and the County tag <br /> fee to provide for a 4 or 5 year program to bring additional bus hours to Triangle Transit, <br /> Chapel Hill Transit and Orange Public Transportation (OPT). He said this will start with the <br /> addition of around 8,000 hours and will reach 34,000 hours in a 4 year period. He said this is <br /> being done jointly with the other bus systems to insure coordinated connections. He said the <br /> first presentation of the 5 year OPT bus program will be done for the Commissioners in April. <br /> Council Member Bell left at 9:55pm. <br /> b) Chapel Hill North South Corridor Study <br /> Chapel Hill Transit Director Brian Litchfield said the North South Corridor Study is <br /> related to the Orange County Bus and Rail investment plan, but it is not being funded by the <br /> plan.
