31 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Jay Hichens <br />What do you see as the responsibilities of this board, and what do you hope to <br />accomplish if appointed? <br />The board needs to find the crucial balance between county growth and the preservation of the <br />rural and artistic communities that have been the hallmark of Orange County. I hope to be able <br />to offer a reasoned approach that helps meet this goal. <br />What do you consider to be be the most important issues facing Orange County related <br />to growth? <br />Preservation of the counties rural heritage and environment while encouraging controlled growth <br />that provides a wide spectrum of jobs and a stable tax base will be a significant chanllenges. <br />What role should the Planning Board take in guiding and regulating growth? <br />The planning board should learn from the best and worst examples of similar couties across the <br />US and offer the people of Orange County a comprehensive set of choices for future growth. <br />How would you, as a member of the Planning Board, contribute to the implementation of <br />the Board of Commissioners' adopted Goals and Priorities? <br />-link below <br />http://orangecountync.gov/occlerks/BOCCGoalsO9.pdf <br />For priotities 6, 10, 11, 16, 1 have an interest or knowledge that may allow me contribute to existing efforts. See <br />commments below: <br />Additional information for OCPB question #6. <br />For priority 6 -1 have worked with and helped develop tools that enabled communications with remote employee <br />teams, consumers and third party groups. The ability to distill complex concepts into non - technical language is a skill I <br />have developed over 30 years. For Priority 10 - I have strong interest in green business development, and would be <br />interested in becoming involved in it on a local basis. For Priority 11 - I have been involved in raising efficiencies with <br />these tools.
