INTRODUCTION <br /> This revised scope of work and cost estimate has been prepared by Legacy Research Associates <br /> (Legacy)of Durham, North Carolina, for the Orange County Planning and Inspections Department in <br /> Hillsborough, North Carolina. The proposed work is for additional archaeological fieldwork, lab work, and <br /> reporting associated with the Geothermal Well Project(Phase II) located in the Hillsborough Historic <br /> District. <br /> 2. DESCRIPTION OF ADDITIONAL WORK <br /> A description of the proposed additional archaeological work focuses on five areas that have had <br /> ground-disturbing activities associated with the Geothermal Well Project. These five areas are: Market <br /> House/Riverwalk Park, Old Orange County Courthouse, Old Orange County jail, DA Office East Parking Lot, <br /> and DA Office West Side Yard. <br /> Market House/Riverwalk Park Old Orange County Courthouse. and Old Orange County Jail <br /> Fieldwork was conducted at these three areas in November 2013. Additional work needed to <br /> complete the investigation of these areas included: artifact processing, analysis, and curation; recording <br /> the archaeological sites with the North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), and preparing a <br /> report on the fieldwork, artifact analysis, and historic context for the investigations. <br /> DA Office East Parking Lot and West Side Yard <br /> The additional archaeological investigations in the DA Office East Parking Lot and West Side Yard <br /> areas that was conducted in January 2014 included the following elements: controlled archaeological <br /> subsurface investigations, mapping the excavations, analyzing data, possibly recording two sites with the <br /> North Carolina SHPO, and reporting on the fieldwork. The work documented the presence or absence of <br /> cultural and archaeological resources and determined the significance of any cultural resources that were <br /> affected by the geothermal well project. <br /> 1 <br />
