Excerpt of Draft April 2, 2014 Planning <br />Board Meeting Minutes <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Ashley Moncado, Planner II, (919) 245 -2589 <br />Craig Benedict, Director, (919) 245 -2575 <br />PURPOSE: To receive the Planning Board recommendation and make a decision on a <br />Planning Board and Planning Director initiated text amendment to the Unified <br />Development Ordinance (UDO). <br />As a reminder, the public hearing was closed at the February 18, 2014 BOCC meeting, <br />so no additional public comments can be accepted on this item. <br />BACKGROUND: At the January 9, 2013 Planning Board meeting, Board members <br />discussed areas of interest to be worked on in the coming year. Many of these items <br />were elements highlighted in the UDO Implementation Bridge report prepared when the <br />UDO was adopted in 2011. One item presented by the Planning Board and referenced <br />in the Implementation Bridge was the need to review home occupation requirements to <br />determine the need to revise existing standards. Since July 2013 staff has been <br />working directly with the Planning Board to review and revise existing home occupation <br />standards contained in the UDO. <br />The amendment was presented for adoption consideration at the February 18, 2014 <br />BOCC meeting. During discussion Board members identified concerns with existing <br />and proposed language regarding screening and setback standards for accessory <br />structures utilized in a home occupation.
