16 <br />CASA's work supports the Orange County Partnership to End Homelessness and is <br />consistent with the goals of the Affordable Housing Strategy and the Affordable <br />Rental Housing Strategy. <br />Housina for New Hope: $6.500 <br />The Homeless Outreach and Housing Support Program assists those experiencing <br />homelessness and the chronically homeless to improve their lives through obtaining <br />and maintaining permanent housing and supportive services. Funding would be used <br />to pay a portion of the salary for a Homeless Outreach worker. <br />The Council has allocated Community Development funds to Housing for New Hope <br />since 2008 to support its homeless outreach efforts. Over the next year, Housing for <br />New Hope anticipates assisting 45 households to obtain and maintain housing, and <br />anticipates engaging with 223 individuals through outreach efforts to receive <br />services. <br />This program would serve households earning less than 50% of the area median <br />income. <br />Chapel Hill Carrboro YMCA After School Outreach Program: $15,000 <br />The After School Outreach Program operates at the Chapel Hill /Carrboro YMCA, <br />serving children living in the Pine Knolls neighborhood and the South Estes Drive and <br />Airport Gardens public housing communities. Funds would be used to serve sixteen <br />eligible children from households earning less than 50% of the area median income. <br />Volunteers for Youth, I nc.: $3,000 <br />Funds would be used for the organization's Every Girl Counts program. The goal of <br />this program is to serve fifteen middle - schools girls from low- to moderate - income <br />families by improving school performances and teaching valuable life skills to its <br />members. The program will include weekly life -skill workshops and visits to college <br />campuses. This program would serve households earning less than 80% of the area <br />median income. <br />EmPOWERment, Inc: $2,000 <br />The Career Explorers Program provides summer employment for ten youth ages 18- <br />21 from households earning less than 80% of the area median income. The program <br />is designed to provide an opportunity to discover life and career skills that will better <br />prepare them for future employment, financial management and assist in their social <br />and emotional development. Program participants work 36 hours per week with local <br />businesses. <br />7. Program Administration: $80.701 <br />The Council allocated $80,701 for administration expenses for the Housing and <br />Neighborhood Services division of the Planning Department. Funds would be used for <br />oversight of the Community Development program and related affordable housing <br />programs, as well as coordination with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban <br />Development and agencies that receive funding to maintain compliance with federal <br />regulations. <br />FY 2014 -2015 Action Plan 11 <br />
