ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: October 17, 2006
Action Agenda
Item No, 7~
SUBJECT: Recognition of Orange County Volunteer Public Safety Organizations
DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
ATTACHMENT(S): Under separate cover:
List of Each Organization and their Chiefs/
Representative for Receipt of Plaque
INFORMATION CONTACT:
Donna Baker, Clerk, 245-2130
Gommissioner Stephen H. Halkiotis
PURPOSE: To recognize, honor, and to present plaques to the thirteen (13) Volunteer Fire, Rescue,
and Ham Radio Amateurs' organizations that serve the residents of Orange County.
BACKGROUND: The thirteen (13) volunteer fire, rescue, and ham radio amateurs' organizations
provide an immeasurable service to the citizens of Orange County. These volunteers spend many
hours of their time training to maintain their required certifications in order to provide Orange County
citizens with the most qualified response possible. To assure a timely response to the resident's needs,
they also spend many hours "on-duty" at the different locations in the county. This means even more
hours away from their families; however, they give generously of their time so our citizens can feel
secure in the knowledge that an experienced responder will be there when the need arises.
The individual Chiefs and their organizations, as listed on the attachment, will be recognized and will
receive a departmental plaque for display in their facility.
The Board of Commissioners, as approved at the September 12, 2006 meeting, will host an ice cream
social for individual members and their families on Sunday, October 22, 2006, from 2-4pm in the area
behind the Sheriff's Office (weather permitting). At this time, each individual will receive a Certificate and
a small token of the Board's appreciation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: None
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board recognize these 13 organizations
with the presentation of a plaque.
