ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: October 17, 2006 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. 7 - q <br />SUBJECT: Recognition of Sarah Craige for Mural at Southern Human <br />Services Center <br />DEPARTMENT: Orange County Arts PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Commission <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />None <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Martha Shannon, 245-2335 <br />PURPOSE: To recognize and thank Sarah Craige for her commissioned piece "Tree of Life" at <br />SHSC. Her file mural was commissioned by the Orange County Arts Commission and recently <br />installed. A reception was held at the SHSC on September 19, 2006. <br />BACKGROUND: At the request of Chair Barry Jacobs, Orange County artist Sarah Craige has <br />been asked to attend this meeting, along with Roosevelt and John Sanford, the masons who <br />assisted her in the installation of this public art project. <br />She has been asked to bring photos of her process and illustrations of her design. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no current financial impact on Orange County, as the artist has <br />already been paid $10,000 for this project. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board acknowledge Sarah <br />Craige, along with Roosevelt Sanford and John Sanford during the October 17, 2006 meeting. <br />
