I have
made these two assumptions to accomplish this:first, the existing soil conditions on Lines S-1 V S-3 will be the same for
all work. They appear to be the same however the rock is buried therefore they seem to be very consistent. Secondly,
the actual ratio of rock encountered during excavation of the recently constructed line and the future line work will be
consistent. The topography of the two lines appear similar supporting this fact. The contractor has install sewer
line from Sta 0+00 to MH#53 (approx.4600 Lin. Ft.)and "hit" 6350 Cu.Yds. of rock. Based on the above statements,
4500 Cu.Yds.of rock will be needed to complete Line S-3.Also the construction of Line S-1 will need approximately 6000
CU.Yds.of rock. This could result in amount totallingf 17,000 Cu.Yds.of rock for the entire project. The original
Construction Bids included 6338 Cu.Yds. of rock @ $60.00 per Cu.Yd.Therefore,there is a possible change order
amount of 10,662 Cu.Yds. of rock for the entire Project.
David Townsend III, PE
Hobbs, Upchurch &Associates, P.A.
PO Box 1737
135 W.
