2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION OF RECOGNITION ON <br /> CHAPEL HILL HIGH SCHOOL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM AND <br /> COACH SHERRY NORRIS <br /> WINNING THE 2014 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP <br /> WHEREAS, on March 15, 2014, Chapel Hill High School Women's Basketball Team captured <br /> the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's (NCHSAA) 3A State <br /> Women's Basketball Championship; and, <br /> WHEREAS, under the guidance of Coach Sherry Norris, the Chapel Hill High School Women's <br /> Basketball Team earned its second NCHSAA state title, completing the season <br /> with an undefeated 32-0 record; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Coach Sherry Norris was named the 2013-14 North Carolina Women's Coach of <br /> the Year by the Associated Press, and, in her 37th year as a classroom teacher, has <br /> announced her retirement; and, <br /> WHEREAS, Coach Sherry Norris is the winningest high school volleyball and basketball coach <br /> with more than 1,200 victories across the two sports, and recorded her 540th <br /> basketball win with the State Championship victory by the Lady Tigers; and, <br /> WHEREAS, through hard work, dedication, teamwork, and commitment, the Lady Tigers <br /> brought honor upon themselves, Chapel Hill High School, the Chapel <br /> Hill/Carrboro City Schools District and Orange County; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> expresses its sincere appreciation and respect for the Chapel Hill High School <br /> Women's Basketball Team and Coach Sherry Norris for the Tigers' outstanding <br /> achievement, and their inspiration to youth across North Carolina through their <br /> dedication, teamwork, and athletic prowess. <br /> This the 15th day of April, 2014. <br /> Barry Jacobs, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
